About Rob and Beth Mangum Rob and Beth Mangum met as sophomore and freshman at North Carolina State University School of Design (now the College of Art and Design) where Rob studied graphics and illustration and Beth focused on fibers and surface design. Beth had grown up in Alexandria, VA where she attended St. Agnes School. Rob began making pottery in his parent's studio in Sparta, NC in the 1970's. In 1989, he and Beth formed their pottery studio after they graduated from design school. Rob went on to receive an MFA from Indiana University. The couple moved to the Asheville area in 1997 and began creating work out of their Weaverville studio. Rob and Beth strive to find the union between heritage and contemporary design. Their creative process is guided by the clay itself, through years of studying the nature of the materials.
